Spike Lee Wants to Work with Timothée Chalamet; Director of Malcolm X Names His Best Film of 2025

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Spike Lee says he would like to collaborate with Timothée Chalamet, star of the Dune films. The two have been spotted together at several New York Knicks basketball games.
The Oscar-winning director told The Bill Simmons Podcast that he considers Chalamet a “great” actor and an iconic Knicks fan, adding that there is “no competition” between them over who is the bigger fan.
Lee went on to say he hopes to work with Chalamet someday: “Look, he’s a good guy, a real [Knicks] fan, a great actor, and we’ve talked about making a film together as soon as his schedule allows—in the next four or five years.” He emphasized, however, that this project would have “nothing to do with sports.”
Chalamet has the sports drama Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie, hitting theaters this year and will soon shoot another sports film, High Side, with director James Mangold. He is currently filming Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled for release in December 2026.
The Malcolm X director recently collaborated with Denzel Washington on Highest 2 Lowest and has other projects in development, including Prince of Cats.
In another interview with The Ringer, Lee named Ryan Coogler’s Sinners as his pick for the best film of 2025: “I was jumping up and down, my mind was blown—especially with that musical sequence… That film was transformative; it took me someplace else.”
